The Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design (FAAD) and the Lebanese Emigration Research Center (LERC) at Notre Dame University in Lebanon, invite artists from Lebanon and abroad to participate in a contemporary art exhibition on the Lebanese Diaspora.
The main objective of the proposed event is to contribute in bringing the Lebanese Diaspora closer to its land of origin through the avenue of art; this event to be but one single link of a long and solid chain of cultural events meant to create a universal Lebanese society and culture spreading across the five continents. This art exhibition aims at providing participants with an opportunity to reflect on the Lebanese Diaspora in all its aspects. It also aspires to establish the first art gallery on the Lebanese Diaspora at the “Lebanon and Migration Museum” of Notre Dame University-Louaizé.
The event is open to artists and art galleries from Lebanon and abroad. All forms of painting, drawing, collage, mixed media, photography, printmaking, and computer art will be accepted.
Artists interested in participating in the event should fill out the Application Form and transmit the digital images of maximum three entries per participant by latest January 10, 2010 to the electronic address: email@example.com.
Artists may treat the proposed theme through various angles encompassing, but not limited to all of the historical, sociological, anthropological, environmental, and psychological perspectives covering issues such as journeys, memories, negotiations, identity, origin, life cycle, family, ancestors, community, country, passage and voyage, values, culture, images, symbols, iconography, institutions, racism, xenophobia, emotions, death, war, return, separation, joys, sorrows, migratory experience, destination, networking, myth, media portrayal, globalization, space, transnational relationship, return, networking, and the like.
A jury composed of eminent authorities will evaluate all artwork exhibited in the event and will award prizes to the best three artworks. All exhibitors will receive a letter of appreciation. The form of award will be announced at a later date.
Selected artworks will be featured in a catalog published exclusively in connection with the exhibition. The catalog will include a photo of the artwork and eventual respective artist statement.
