3 PROJECT, European Capital of Culture 2012, River Drava, Maribor

Three projects on the Drava in Maribor, Slovenia.
The International Union of Architects announces the launch of an international competition for the layout of three sites on the river Drava, in Maribor city centre. This single stage ideas competition is part of a vast town planning and redevelopment programme in the Slovene city designated European Capital of Culture 2012. Organised by the Municipality of Maribor and the Union of Architects of Maribor with the support of the UIA Slovene Section, the competition in conformity with the UIA-UNESCO regulations has been approved by the UIA. Three sites are open to competition: the layout of the river embankment, the design of a footbridge and the conception of the Maribor Art Gallery. Competitors are invited to submit a project for one, two or three programmes. Each programme will be presented and adjudicated separately.

The Jurys
One jury will adjudicate the entries for the river Drava embankment and those for the footbridge. It will be composed of Roger Riewe (Austria), Sasa Begovic (Croatia) architects; Ales Vodopivec, Uros Lobnik, Stojan Skalicky (Slovenia) architects; Andreas Ruby (Germany) critic & publisher, and Ana Kucan (Slovenia) landscape architect. Deputy members: Andrej Smid (Slovenia), Luciano Lazzari (Italy), architects.

Another jury will adjudicate the entries for the Art Gallery . It is composed of Hrvoje Njiric (Croatia), Peter L. Wilson (Australia), Jürgen Hermann Mayer (Germany) architects; Stojan Skalicky (Slovenia), Matevz Celik (Slovenia), Marko Studen (Slovenia) and Christoph Grunenberg (United Kingdom), Director of the Tate Gallery Liverpool. Deputy members: Uros Lobnik (Slovenia), Vojko Pavcic (Slovenia) architects.

Participation
The competition is open to architects worldwide, whose national professional organisations are members of the UIA. The competition language is English. The registration fee is 150 euros and payable on-line at the time of registration.

Prizes
A total of 176 000 euros will be awarded in prizes.
Embankment layout: 1st prize 30.000 €, 2nd prize 15.000 €, 3rdprize 8.000 €
Design of the footbridge: 1st prize 30.000 €, 2nd prize 15.000 €, 3rd prize 8.000 €
Conception of the Art Gallery: 1st prize 40.000 €, 2nd prize 20.000 €, 3rd prize10.000 €.
