The project goal is to create part of the “new city centre” with the highest quality of urban spaces and architecture, while accommodating more than 120.000 m2 of offices, residences, retail and culture.
Surrounded by an attractive neighbourhood and serviced by excellent pedestrian access to the medieval part of the city of Bratislava, the competition site calls for the provision of a first class project.
Project background
Bratislava city centre is looking to expand into its former industrial area. This area is considered to be one of the last vacant plots in the central part of the city suitable for large scale projects and urban interventions. This 35ha site will be developed by several private investors including Penta Investments.
Penta Investments will be developing 4ha of this site into a mixed-use development as an integral part of the ?New City’ of Bratislava. This development by Penta, will form the 1st phase of the massive brown-field redevelopment and regeneration initiative, in excess of 1 million of GBA.
A disused heating plant is located in the middle of the competition site and it is envisioned that the reuse and renovation of this building will form a future cultural core to this new city centre. At present, discussions with the Ministry of Culture is under way to explore the idea of turning this heating plant to a National Gallery of Contemporary Product Design, Visual Art and Architecture.
