The University of California, Santa Cruz, is soliciting qualified architectural firms to provide professional services for the following project: Institute of the Arts and Sciences is a new interdisciplinary program that will be housed in a new approximately 27,000-31,000 gross square foot building. It will operate as “a nexus for innovation in exhibit making, teaching, research, creation, and public interaction” and will ”challenge our perceptions of the arts and sciences and their relationship to the world.” In addition there is a pedestrian bridge and related paths associated with the project.
The University of California, Santa Cruz, is soliciting qualified architectural firms to provide phased architectural programming, design, and construction administration services for the Institute of the Arts and Sciences, a donor-funded project. A preliminary construction budget forecast based only on programmatic information projects the building alone would cost $32-40 million in today’s dollars plus an additional 8-10% for related site work. The pedestrian bridge and paths have a construction budget of $4-5 million in today’s dollars.
Interested firms will be required to submit statements of qualifications demonstrating related project experience, using standard forms, which will be provided by the University as part of a two-stage selection process. Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons, regardless of race, religion, sex, color, ethnicity and national origin have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University. Proof of equal employment opportunity policy will be required of each candidate firm.
